About

American bass Andrew Boisvert has been hailed as “thundering” (San Diego Story) with a “deep warmth” (The Rutland Herald).

As a bass, Boisvert has the fortune of being cast as villains, anti-heroes, and figures of authority. He has delved into the American opera repertoire with roles such as Frank Maurrant from Street Scene, Olin Blitch from Susannah, Sam from Trouble in Tahiti, and The Unnamed Bass from the 21st century opera, Too Many Sopranos.

Boisvert frequents the competition circuit, most recently competing in the 2024 Gerda Lissner Lieder Competition, and previously in the Jensen Competition in NYC, the Dolven Awards with the Mendelssohn Club of Albany, and several times in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.

Some 2024 performance highlights include returning to Cedar Rapids Opera to sing the Unnamed Bass in Edwin Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos (June 2024), returning to Bel Cantanti Opera to play Frank in Die Fledermaus (May 2024), singing the Bass Soloist in Mozart’s Requiem with the Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra (April 2024), and making his Cedar Rapids Opera debut as Il Carceriere in Tosca (January 2024).

In 2023, he made his Indianapolis Opera debut as Zuniga and covered Escamillo in Carmen, made a return to Bel Cantanti Opera to sing Alidoro in La Cenerentola, and returned to Sarasota Opera to cover Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni and Lo zio Bonzo in Madama Butterfly.

In 2022, Boisvert was involved in several more productions, including singing Il Re di Scozia in Opera Neo’s production of Ariodante , covering Sergeant Sulpice in St. Petersburg Opera’s production of La fille du Régiment, and performing as Sam in Fargo-Moorhead Opera’s production of Trouble in Tahiti.

In addition to traditional opera, Boisvert enjoys diversifying his repertoire with productions such as St. Petersburg Opera’s 9-man Holiday Sparkle concert series, containing dancing, holiday choral music, and solo pop numbers.

In Fall 2020, Boisvert created an outdoor concert series in the Berkshires, Music on the Hill. Performances consisted of opera arias, art song, musical theater, and solo piano repertoire and provided a much-needed source of live music, in the midst of the pandemic.

As part of their 2020 Summerfest Series, he performed with Opera North as the High Priest Sarastro in a socially-distanced production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. This was one of the only live opera productions performed in the US in the summer of 2020.

Other past opera engagements include covering Cadmus and Somnus in Semele with St. Petersburg Opera (2022), performing Don Basilio in Opera Theater of Connecticut’s The barber of Seville (2021), and singing Banco in Act I of Verdi’s Macbetto with Opera Avant (2021).

Earlier, in 2020, Boisvert performed with Sarasota Opera, where he covered Il Pedone in Catalani’s La Wally, Count Capulet in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and Il Conte di Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto. He performed as Olin Blitch in Floyd’s Susannah and covered Count Capulet in Roméo et Juliette at the Brevard Music Festival (2019). With the Maryland Opera Studio, he performed as Frank Maurrant in Weill’s Street Scene (2019) and Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro (2018).

He earned his Master of Music degree with the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland and previously attended the University of Hartford, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance.

Boisvert is a student of internationally renowned bass-baritone Kevin Short.
